Curious or Serious? The Problem with Internet Marketing

Curious or Serious? The Problem with Internet Marketing

Ok, so after 15 years in the marketing business, I have come to some conclusions.

Many people now have high speed internet right? Many people are looking for an opportunity to make money online right?

So why is it so difficult?

The reason that it is so difficult is because it is so easy. Let me explain…

With today’s incredible technology we have the ability to look at a million different things on the internet.

It is extremely easy to surf from one site to another, to go from one opportunity to the other. It is really capitalism at its finest, and the freedom of choice.

The internet is all about empowering people to make choices and have unlimited access to information.

So why is it so difficult to build a “real” business online?

Here is a typical scenario…

Someone is casually surfing the internet and gets “lured in” by a great website that looks like a good opportunity.

They go ahead and join (either for free or a few bucks) and since it is no “skin” off their teeth, they are just not real serious about it. They have no real “investment” in the game.

Hence the problem. I’m sure that you heard that 97% of all mlm’ers fail. This is why.

They just aren’t serious.

What can you do to combat the problem?

Well the first thing is that you need to isolate you from the “rejection” The fact of the matter is that most people will never have any success in MLM. You need to build “systems” that will keep those people from taking up your personal time, effort and energy, so you can focus on the ones that will build your business.

Don’t get emotionally “invested” in one lead or one person. You will need literally thousands of visitors to your websites, and literally hundreds of sign ups to find just a few that will actually do it.

I have built an internet marketing system that attracts interested people, they go through a process (automated) and then once they have completed that process, then I may end up spending some time with them.

This separates the curious from the serious.

We as an industry need to “toughen up” and realize that there is big money to be made on the internet, but that it is going to take persistence, time, work, energy and money.

As always we would love to hear your questions, comments and concerns about anything we write.

Ministry vs Business

Of course the long term success is what we are all looking for.

This brings up another interesting situation that I came across a couple of years ago.

I ran into a man that was selling some sort of drinkable product. I won't mention the name of the company. But he beleived that this product cured cancer. I mean HE really believed it.

I know that what you believe can be very powerul, so i did not dispute him in his belief.

What's interesting though is that we started to talk about the "numbers and finances" of his business. Things like how much was he making, how much was he spending, and other such things.

Here is what I found out... The man was actually losing money by running his business. Because many of his clients were infirm (sick) he delivered much of the product. He would drive across town to deliver a $10 bottle.

Even though he believed that he was "saving the world" he was actually going broke doing it.

Is this the end of the story for this guy? No, but I think it goes to show that we can mistakenly run our busiensses as a "ministry" rather than a "business"

I believe we need to have systems on the front end "lead generation," that are profitable in the short term, to keep the back end "our primary business" running smoothly and effectively.

Education Education Education

One of the things that I finally realized was that I needed to get an education about the internet. I was struggling.

I had had some success with traditional network marketing. I had actually built a pretty decent sized network marketing business. I have personally sponsored over 300 people in various organizations that I have worked with.

However, when I tried to bring my business to the internet I struggled badly. At one point I was purchasing leads that were $5.00 a piece.

I was actually going broke trying to build my business. Don’t laugh; there are literally thousands of people out there doing the same thing.

I also was trying to figure everything out by myself. I would do this program, and then do that program. I would try these lead, try those leads. It was a mess.

I would like to save you from that struggle. We have put together a program that is no cost to you. No risk to, No money out of your pocket. (Our advertisers will pay your way into our program)

I would like to save you from the same troubles that I had.

Once you get registered with this program, I will send you an email series that is the best that I have ever put together.

But this is just a tiny fraction of the education that will be available to you.

You have nothing to lose, and only an education to gain.

With no risk, no out of pocket, and an education that could change your life…

Why wouldn’t you?

Check it out. You can always call me directly with any of your questions.

The Ultimate Funded Proposal

A funded proposal is where you get your prospect to either spend money, time, or make a committment to you prior to you offering your primary business to them.

This makes for a more qualified prospect because they have taken some action, or purchased a product from you prior to learning about your primary program.

We have been researching this concept for some time, and may have found the Ultimate Funded Proposal.

Obviously in this market education and training are extremely important. As a matter of fact the longer that I am in the "business" the more I realize what I don't know!!

Imagine if there were a way for your prospect to learn the basics of internet marketing, and marketing in general, while at the same time you earn $50!!

Now Imagine if that prospect was able to join that program for FREE!!

I have to tell you that this is the best of both worlds. Not only do you get a more qualified prospect to market your primary program to, but you make 50$ in the process, AND, your prospect paid no money to do it!!

This has to be the next best thing to sliced bread. We are running all of our prospects through this system now!!

Check it out here.

Business Networking Sites.. Direct Matches

I have found a great resource for those of you that are trying to grow your MLM or Affiliate business; or any business for that matter.

With the advent, and incredible growth, of social networking sites like U-tube, the business community has been watching.

These types of social groups where people just "hang out" online are incredibly powerful and certainly creating a huge amount of commerce opportunities for those that know how to exploit them.

Direct Matches is a site that is a social networking site, but with a twist. This site is designed specifically for people that are in business. It is a great place to meet other "like minded" individuals and other business people. It has video like utube, friends, forums, etc, etc..

Although social as well, Direct Matches is geared more to the business professional. Sort of like an online leads club, or online chamber of commerce meeting.

There is definately a skill needed to rise above the "noise" on this sites, (as you'll see when you join, most people just try to immediately recruit you) but with a little training and ability, you can definately find the types of people that you need to grow your business.

You can try Direct Matches for free and check it out.

If you need some help, as always feel free to contact us directly

Connecting with People One on One

The more "technoligcally savvy" that I become, the more that I realize that it is good ole fashioned converation that really builds businesses.

Over the last several months I have learned how to...

Build this blog (and others)

Write Articles

Post to Forums

Post to Networking Groups

Use Autoreponders

ETC...ETC

But the thing of it is, it is still that connection with other people that is important. Not telling them how great my program is or how smart I am, but working with them to see if there is any common ground.

In short TALKING WITH PEOPLE.

All of my tools that I use on the internet are designed to get me in conversation with "like minded" people.

I have never had any success just "selling" my opportunity without having some sort of a connection between myself and the person that is signing on.

Of course there are some skills that are needed if you are going to be successful. Most times I find people interesting if they just be themselves, and talk like a regular person.

If someone seems to "salesy" that usually turns me off and I end the conversation.

Interpersonal Communication Skills are still the most important things that people can have.

If you have a business that is in the industry of "mlm or Affiliate Marketing" and you are able to build that business without actually talking to people... I would like to hear about it!!

For the rest of you... If you would like to practice your communication skills. I am all ears!!

OFF TOPIC.... WORKING FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY

Wife and I had an interesting conversation the other day.

We were taking a look at how much we we were paying in bills and all, and the idea came to us... If we lived somewhere else, with the amount of money that we take in from our online businesses, we would live like Kings...

So we started to look around. We have been researching Costa Rica. We figured that as long as our income continues with our online businesses, we really have no need to stay in the United States.

Of course we would still be citizens here, but we would have the ability to rent a villa on the beach for about $1000-1500 per month.

This would include a full time cook and maid. (wife's not big on housecleaning)

Here in Southern California we are paying over $4000 per month in our mortgage alone.

We were just thinking... Why continue here? The only thing holding my wife back is that her daughter is going to college nearby. But the reality of it is we don't see her but once every couple of months anyway.

I was just curious of any of our readers have done anything like this and what your comments, questions and concerns are.

I may be looking into the possiblity of creating a business that would help people move to foriegn countries, secure their assets, and reduce the amount of tax that they pay, at the same time living in a paradise!!

What do you think of that?

Articles, Forums, and Blogs

Apparently these are some of the keys to marketing online. These three seem to be generationg me some MLM traffic to my website, and generationg some phone calls.

The key to these three things is becoming the expert. You have to have some value to what you are saying. You have to speak (or write) with authority.

Write about something that you know and are passionate about.

Articles

I use a submission service and I try to write a fresh article about 2 times a week. ( You can read my articles at http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Keith_Jenkins )

The cool thing about articles if they are well written and not just a "sales" letter than other publishers will pick them up and post them over the internet. This provides a fantastic way to get your "name" out there (along with the link to your capture page as well)

Of course the more people see you out there, the more that they think you are an expert.

Forums
It's really the same thing for a forum. The main difference with a forum is that I try to get a discussion going about lead generation, or blogging, or something that I know a little about. I try to provide value to the other readers, and then I always post my link at the bottom in my signature file. If people find value in the forum or article, they will come back to me to ask additional questions, or want to find out more about me by going to my link.

Blogs

Blogs are a little different. Blogs take a little bit more creativity. With a blog you need to post something at least 2-3 times per week. This is where some people run into trouble. They can't come up with enough content to keep it interesting.

The cool thing about all of these things is that they are FREE!! If you have good content on them and the information that you are providing is useful, people will come.

"If you build it they will come"

Use these three things on a daily basis and soon you'll have plenty of people interested in what you are doing!!

Article that I wrote about Keith's MLM and List building

Keith’s MLM Forums, Articles, and List Building

The longer I’m on the internet the more that I am amazed. This internet thing is incredible.

I have learned a couple of great lessons over the last couple of months that I wanted to share with you. It has to do with Articles, Forums, list building, and becoming the Expert

Let’s talk about them one at a time.

List building.

As I surf the net, I notice that many people are advertising their “company” website. I think that this is a mistake. When I advertise, I advertise to capture peoples names and emails (sometimes phone numbers) that way we can put them into an autoresponder to get them all sorts of information that they may be interested.

If someone just goes to a company website, there is no direction there. They may just poke around and then leave. There is no compelling reason to keep them there. I always advise against promoting your companies website.

If you design a web “capture page” that is designed to entice the client to enter in their contact information, then you can market to that person indefinitely (or until they opt out)

Articles

I have been amazed at the results that a few well written articles can produce. I have had several of my articles “picked up” and syndicated in other places. This of course is fine with me because I share information, and then my link to my website is always at the bottom of the page. This link gets posted thousands and thousands of times all over the internet, and I think google and search engines like lots of links to your website.

Forums

Forums basically work on the same idea as articles. You post ideas, comments, questions and participate in a “thread” of conversation and everytime you post, your signature file contains your website address. Sometimes people will click just to learn a little more about you and take a look at your website. Especially if your advice, comments or questions were relevant.

Becoming the Expert

This is definitely the most important concept that you can grab hold of. Whenever you are seeking out advice or trying to learn a new concept who do you go to? Do you go to someone that knows less than you? No you go to someone that you perceive as an expert in that field.

Because of my extensive experience in online and offline marketing, I have people asking me questions, emailing me questions, and wanting to get involved in my programs, simply because I shared some information with them that they found valuable.

What is a subject matter that you know a lot about? Can you form an online business around that concept? What do you know better than just about everyone else out there? Can you articulate that in an article?

If you combine these concepts into an online presence, this will definitely help you to drive traffic to your site, and help you become profitable as soon as possible.

If you have questions concerns or comments on anything that we write we would love to hear it!!

Ok... Holiday over... Lets get back to work

Ok, The unofficial end to summer has happened. From what I understand that leaves us a pretty good season to sponsor a bunch of people into our MLM programs.

What I hear is that from now until Thanksgiving is the best "season" to bring on new people and I am ready.

The kids are back to school, everyone is back from their summer vacations, and people are ready to get back to business.

I for one am ready for them. We have put in place some MLM systems that will bring people through a process that will educate them, and trun them into excellent prospects for me!!

Hope you can do the same. It's not about what program they get into, it's about helping them become successful.

Would love to hear your comments, questions and concerns about anything that we write.

Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!!

Well here is the salute to all those people that have jobs!! I was once one of them but no more.

Hopefully some of them are home surfing today to find a better life for themselves.

Of course having an online business is no cake walk, but I sure enjoy waking up in the morning and seeing that my businesses have grown.

It has been so incredibly hot here in San Diego at our house that we have set up the air conditioner in one room, and we have not left that room. It will be over 100 again today for the 3rd or 4th day straight.

I guess that will keep me indoors working on my business.

We would love to hear what you are doing for your holiday. Post it in the comments section and let us know. We love to hear from our readers.

Couldn't Sleep last night... This is what I did

Here in San Diego we are in the hottest time of year. The last week of August and the first week or two fo September are just way too hot.

At our house it has been over 100 last couple of days, and the humidity is terrible. Although we do have a pool (thank God!!) we don't have a very good air conditioner.

So I have been spending a lot of time with my computer at the local Starbucks... Not drinking coffee, but just using their space and air conditioner. (they don't mind, I always buy something and tip them well)

Anyway, I couldn't sleep last night because it was so hot, So I decided to build a website for fun.

I'm not much of a web designer, so I just (borrowed) from so other websites and sales letters that I liked.

http://www.imcoolstuff.com/Payitfor.html

I had a bunch of credits saved up from one of my traffic exchanges (s25, see the link to the right) so I decided to use my credits to send people to my new site.

I had never really done that before, usually I only promote my affiliate sites, but I thought I would give it a try.

Just over night (On a Saturday Night, over a three day holiday weekend) here is what happened.

About 400 people saw my website because of the traffic exchange.

I got 3 people that opted-in to my email list.
I got 1 person that actually signed up for my program.

The traffic exchange still owes me about 400 more hits... We'll see what happens.

Not bad for a night of insomnia.

If you would like some help setting up these types of systems for yourself, please let us know!!

Stop Pitching your Program.... Try this instead.

Become the expert.

We already know that most people 97% or so will fail in their businesses.

What is the difference of the 3%?

I certainly don't have all the answers but here are a few things that I have noticed.

They usually speak with authority. They are talking about something that they have already done, and can show you the way.

They are more concerned with you, your character, and your development, rather than getting you into the next great "program"

They are not afraid to so no to the wrong person, or the wrong timing.

In order for you to become the expert here are a couple of suggestions.

Stop "pitching" your program. Nobody really cares how great it is, until they know how much you care.

Spend time in conversation with people. Get to know them. Tell them about yourself. If you can't do that one on one, do it over the internet.

Start a blog about something that you are passionate about. Write and submit articles on the same topics.

Share a piece of yourself in the things that you do.

Realize that there is no free lunch... You just like everyone else is going to have to pay your own way, with experience, money, time and effort.

Don't tell anyone else that it is any different!!

Stop Pitching... Start Inspiring.

#1 on Google Already!!!

Couldn't believe it... I was just goofing around today, and I typed in Keith's MLM in google, and I came up #1.

Wow.. This stuff really works.

I also came up under Keith's online at #4.

Onward and upward.

Keith

This is the plan of action

So I sort of have my marching orders on what to do day by day.

1. Make 5 article submissions
2. Make 5 forum posts
3. Add friends and email on adland pro and Direct Matches

I have already gotten a couple of calls from people asking me about my business. Usually they are trying to sell me their business, but at least they are calling me instead of me calling them.

It's pretty interesting but you can turn the prospecting machine upside down!!

I am also continuing to surf with ts25 and traffic swarm. I am up to about 5000 credits with
traffic swarm.

Ts25 is very interesting also. I like it better than traffic swarm just because it is a little more fun. There are bonuses, and your joined with a team...

So onward and upward. For some reason I got no hits on my website yesterday, and still no sign ups...

My goals over the next 20-30 days are to get these products.

1. Site submitter... get my site submitted professionally
2. Article submitter... Automate my article submission process
3. Forum submitter... Automate the forum submission process.

But, I have spent so much money so far, I'd like to see some sort of return first!!

GDI... I didn't even realize the power of this one...

Friends,

One of the things that I signed up for as part of my Pay it Forward 4 Profits mentoring/affiliate program is a company called GDI.

As I may have mentioned before, I sort of joined PAY it forward with that child like faith that you hear about sometimes.

But after really taking the time to look at this company

Global Domains International

I was pretty impressed. I think the internet will be around for a long time don't you?

Many people that didn't get the Domain name that they wanted now have a 2nd chance.

Maybe you wanted to get your name as a domain your name as a domain. Now you can!!

Also for only 10 bucks a month people get a website(the can customize) 10 email addresses and the domain name.

This creates a long term residual source of income, because people will keep their domain names and email addresses!!

Anyway, check it out if your interested. Click link above.

Multiple streams of income is the key!!

Keith

Traffic Exchanges

Ok,

So Today I thought I would tell you what I have learned about traffic exchanges so far.

Traffic exchanges seem to be pretty cool if you have some time to surf.

The basic idea behind them is that you surf looking at other people's websites, and then in exchange, they look at yours.

I have to admit that I have been spending an hour or two (or more) suring and gaining credits.

One thing about these traffic exchanges is that YOU MUST UPGRADE IMMEDIATELY.

The amount of "credits" that you get is so much more worth it when you have upgraded.

I wouldn't even bother with the free packages.. not even worth it.

The two that I have been working with over the last week or so have been traffic Swarm and

ts25

Here is what I have learned about them.

Traffic Swarm is cool because it is very easy to use. I upgraded right away because you get a ton of extra goodies for doing the same thing.

You just set up the surfing page to come up automatically as a tab, whenever you open internet explorer (firefox works also)

I'm not sure why, but the TS25 site created alot more traffic for me a lot quicker. I immediately upgraded with that one also, and after 2 days I got an additional 600 hits on my website from them, (325 unique)

Also, I think it's important to point out that there is a difference between a "view" and a "click"

Just in case you don't know a view is when someone looks at your page, a click is when someone actually clicks on your page. A click is obviously a lot better than a view. Doesn't mean that they are going to buy anything or sign up for anything, but at least they took a look at your site. That is one step closer to actually joining you!!

I used some of my upgraded "bonus" credits with t25 to do banner ads. That was a waste. I wouldn't encourage you to do that.

As of right now I have about 14000 banner impresssions, and about 4 clicks.

I currently dedicate about 1/2-2 hours a day clicking and surfing... It's a good start to building your own business.

Oh and one other thing...

As I am surfing every once in a while I will actually look at other peoples offers. Although there is a lot of junk out there being promoted, there are some good opportunities as well that may "fit in" with what you are currently doing.

Also, you can learn from their websites as well, and implement some of thier strategies. After all it was interesting enough for you to take a look right?

PLEASE POST YOUR COMMENTS, QUESTIONS and CONCERNS!!

Tuesday, August 28, 2007

Wow... So now I've paid all my affiliate dues

Ok,

I have been around long enough that to be successful in any business you need to spend some money. I mean lets face it, what can you really do for free anyway?

Usually when you are trying to do something for free online, you are just attracting the other people online that are trying to do something for free also right?

How can their be any profit in free?

I know Iknow, there are programs that ...blah blah bla... Please don't post me about about how great your free program is...

Point being, today I signed up for 5 affiliate programs that are all part of the Pay it Forward 4 Profit systems. I upgraded in all of them so now I am set.

My sponsor said that I broke a record in getting that done.

I told him that I am serious about making this work, what next.

So far I have spent about $400 with a monthly committment of 150.00. I am ok with that, and he assured me that we could be profitable in about 3 months or so.

I told him that I would take that on "child like faith" and see where we ended up.

I also got an email today from someone that read one of my articles on funded proposals, and then he tried to pitch me his program....

If he would have actually read the article, he would have learned that he didnt have to do that kind of "hook and switch" type of trickery to get me to look at his program.

I wonder, he must just be capturing emails of article writers and then pitching his program.

Tasteless if you ask me... But I'm sure I'll see worse.

The good news for today is that I got 17 hits to my website!!

More tomorrow. PLEASE LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS!!

Keith

Wow so much stuff to learn

Well here it Late on a Monday night again. I think I have been on the computer for about 16 hours straight today!!

The amount of information that I have been exposed to in the last 4 or 5 days has been extraordinary.

I think I have probably absorbed more information about internet marketing in the last couple of days than I have in the last 15 years.

I will admit though that I have spent some money, and made some ongoing monthly investments that I am hopeful that Ill be able to earn back.

Most of what I am learning is how to create traffic to my websites.

I have learned that blogs, like this one, can generate traffic to my website.
I have learned that posting articles can generate traffic to my website.

I guess the real thing that I have learned is to understand that the information that I need to be successful is out there, you just have to get it from a reliable source.

I think I may have found it with Pay it forward 4 Profits,

I'll let you know. It has been a little bit more expensive than I thought it would be but there are tools that you need to be successful.

Just like the 49's needed picks and shovels, we need the tools like autoresponders, automated systems, squeeze pages and the like to be successful.

Would love to hear any comments or questions, or concerns that you have about anything that we write.

Going to Try Pay it Forward For Profits

In my attempt to switch over my marketing to online. I have been searching, and spending a lot of money, trying to find something that would both educate me, as well as giving me a an opportunity to ulitmately have good prospects for my primary MLM.

I found a company called Pay It Forward 4 Profit.

It seems that they have a "complete turn Key" system for taking a total newbie to serious online internet marketing expert.

Just over the last couple of days I have learned about.

I think an important thing those is that I actually DID what they said, I didn't just read about it.

Blogging...
Article submission
Affiliate Programs
Traffic Building Techniques
Funded Proposals.

And that is just in the first couple of days.

There is also a bunch of videos that take me step by step through the entire process.

I'll keep you posted as too my success and what I am doing.

It seems like a pretty good program because they still let you market your primary program, but they teach you develop your own lead generation machine.

I for one am sick of purchasing leads!!

The beginning

When in doubt take the action.

I have been dabbling for a long time in a couple of different of different MLM's. I actually did pretty well with a nutrition company a few years back.

I personally sponsored over 300 people. Problem is they are all gone now.

So now I am back to square one. I believe in the MLM model, so we will start out new.

I want to learn how to market on the mlm, and I thought it would be fun to blog my experiences both good and bad.

This week we will be investing the concept of the Funded Proposal... I'll let you know what I learn!!

Welcome to Keith's Online Life!!

Hello!!

Here we will post our experiences learning how to grow an online life. I decided to blog it so the people after me would be able to learn from what I have done.

I would also like to hear your experiences as well.
